Top 5: Vegetarian and Weight Watchers Friendly Aldi Finds for Spring 2019
I love Aldi! It is my go-to place to find affordable food options for our household. We find that it can save us up to 30% on our grocery bill. Aldi saves you money by offering a limited selection of items. They make you bring your own bags and a shopping cart will cost you a quarter (which you get back once you return the cart). The stores are smaller than your average supermarket. They often only have one choice for an item you are trying to find. This may freak you out at first because we are so use to having about 6 brand options to choose from. However, I see it as a way to save time when shopping. Instead of trying to decide which can of black beans to buy (organic, name brand, store brand, super cheap ect.) you only have one option. Once you trust that you will like their options, it makes shopping easier!
They have increased the number of vegetarian/ vegan meat substitutes, labeled Earth Grown, to include burgers, meatballs, hot dogs, sausages and chicken patties. Their cheese selections is sometimes as good as Trader Joe’s (depends on the day)! They also have their Fit & Active brand which offers lower calorie items that are often lower in points.
I went to Aldi this week to look for some WW vegetarian items that you might be surprised to find at a discount grocery store. Did I mention that they also deliver!
#5 Season's Choice Steamable Superfood Quinoa
$3.29 - 1 Cup - 5 WW Freestyle Points
This frozen blend of microwavable Quinoa, Brown Rice, Carrots, Sweet Potato, Kale and Red Peppers is steamed in the bag! It would be a great side with baked tofu or tempeh. You could also use it as a base for a Buddha bowl with a can of beans and more fresh veggies.
#4 Simply Nature Sea Salt Organic Popcorn
$2.19 - 3 3/4 Cup - 4 WW Freestyle Points
I am always looking for a low point salty snack and this bag of popcorn could do the trick! You get 3 3/4 cups of popcorn for 4 points! That’s a lot to munch on.
#3 Bitesize Medley Potatoes
$3.29 - 1 Cup - 4 WW Freestyle Points
These little potatoes are so cute! They would make a simple roasted potato recipe look super fancy. Try this roasted potato recipe: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut 4 Cups of potatoes into 1 1/2 inch pieces, add them to a large plastic bag with 1 TBSP of olive oil, 1 TSP onion powder, 1 TSP garlic powder, 1 TBSP Herb de Provence, a pinch of salt and pepper. Shake until combined. Place on a backing sheet lined with aluminum foil and spread out so the potatoes have room. Bake for 20-23 minutes, stir half way. Serves 4. 5 WW Freestyle Points.
#2 Cook House Tavern Style Pot Roast Slow Cooker Sauce
$2.45 - 1/4 Cup - 2 WW Freestyle Points
Sometimes you just need to try a new sauce! This packet could be a tasty topping to a Field Roast Celebration Loaf with beans and cauliflower. Or you could simmer white beans and carrots in the sauce? Despite the packet saying it’s for pot roast, it is vegetarian!
#1 Fit & Active 45 Calorie Wheat Bread
$1.99 - 2 slices - 2 WW Freestyle Points
It is hard to find a normal looking piece of bread that is low in calories? I always feel like they are sliced too thin or the loaf itself is small? This bread is tasty and an appropriate size for a sandwich. 1 point per slice.
What are your go-to items at Aldi’s? Have you tried any of the items above and have a review?
